The Belgrade Philharmonic performance Friday didn’t disappoint. From beginning to end, the dramatic music conducted by charismatic and talented Daniel Raiskin was spellbinding. Entitled “For The Future,” the repertoire was performed at the Kolarac Center and included compositions by composers Marko Nikodijević, Sergei Prokofiev, and Dmitry Shostakovich.

Marko Nikodijević – “Parting of the Waters into Heavens and Seas / Secundus Dies Toccata for Orchestra”
Sergei Prokofiev – “Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 3 Op. 26 C Major,” Alexei Volodin Piano Soloist

Dmitri Shostakovich – “Symphony No. 6 Op. 54 in B Minor”
Marko Nikodijević
Marko Nikodijević is a young Serbian composer and electronic artist. He studied in Belgrade and Stuttgart and has won several international competitions. Considered a composer of “avant-garde music,” Nikodijević is “deeply influenced by techno, and his works are centered around digital technology“.

Nikodijević’s compositions use “mathematics and spectral music, combining traditional instruments with digitally generated sounds“. He currently lives in Germany but was present for the Belgrade Philharmonic Serbian premier of his work.

“Alexei Volodin is a marvelous artist, who peels away layers of meaning and expression in everything he plays, hooked to a fabulously discreet virtuosity.” Harrison Parrott

Alexei Volodin Pianist
Alexei Volodin’s solo of the Prokofiev piece was brilliant! My seat in the balcony overlooked the orchestra, so it provided a birdseye view of the piano and Volodin’s incredible keyboard mastery!
An impressive musician, Volodin has performed with prestigious orchestras worldwide and won countless awards. It was a pleasure seeing and hearing him perform in person. The sold-out audience loved his music so much; they called him back for two encores. Alexei Volodin is an exclusive artist for the company Steinway and Sons.
It was a wonderful evening of beautiful, innovative music!
