I’ve been back in the US since June, slowly re-acclimating. This week I visited the Portland Japanese Garden with a friend. The weather was cool and pleasant – perfect for strolling.

Japanese Culture
The lush, impeccably maintained gardens are a marvel of peace and beauty. They’re designed to give visitors a better understanding of Japanese culture. Founded in 1963, the Garden was a grassroots community effort.

Five Gardens
Each of the five gardens “captures a different period of Japanese history and culture”. The gardens are listed below, and links include incredible professional photography:

Walking Path
The walking path begins at Entry Gardens. The path passes through a Cultural Village that includes a concierge, café, gift shop, and Japanese Art Learning Center.

The koi pond and famous irises in bloom were fabulous, and I recognized some of the same native trees and plants growing in my natural landscaping. We were in awe of the tranquil surroundings. It was a lovely day!
