Every November businesses and volunteers from Eugene and Springfield come together to support the Whiteaker Free Thanksgiving Dinner. This is the 24th year for the event which includes the give-away of sleeping bags, blankets, toiletries, shoes, and warm clothing. It will be my second year as a volunteer.
Preparing and serving the dinner takes generous donations and hundreds of volunteers. “The tradition dates back to the 1980s, when a group of Whiteaker neighborhood residents started taking people into their homes for Thanksgiving.”
This year several thousand people will enjoy good company and a delicious Thanksgiving meal.
