Te Anau New Zealand

I’m spending a few days in Te Anau, a small town on the eastern shore of Lake Te Anau in Fiordland. Lake Te Anau is the largest lake on New Zealand’s South Island and second only within the country to Lake Taupo. Tourism and farming are the main economic activities in the area. Te Anau is the gateway to Fiordland National Park a wilderness area famous for hiking and spectacular scenery.

Wednesday I hiked in Fiordland National Park. The goal was to reach Mt. Luxmore via Dock Bay and Brod Bay. The hiking track follows Lake Te Anau through red beech forests. The yellow-flowering kowhai and scented orchids were beautiful! The hiking track passes under towering limestone bluffs and climbs above the bush line to Luxmore Hut where there are impressive views of lakes Te Anau and Manapouri. Because of heavy wind and rain, I had to turn back before finishing the hike.

Tomorrow I’ll visit Milford Sound and hike in Fiordland National Park along the way.

My site goes over a lot of the same subjects as yours and I think we could greatly benefit from each other. If you might be interested feel free to send me an email. I look forward to hearing from you! Wonderful blog by the way!
