Bantry Bay to Tamboerskloof Cape Town South Arica

On August 1st I’m moving from Bantry Bay along the Atlantic Seaboard to Tamboerskloof in Cape Town City Bowl. Tamboerskloof (drummer’s ravine in Afrikaans) lies on the slopes of Lion’s Head near Signal Hill and next to the neighborhoods of Gardens and Bo-Kaap (also known as the Cape Malay Quarter). During times of war military drummers posted at lookout points on Tamboerskloof sounded drum roll alarms if they saw enemy ships entering Table Bay.

Getting to my new flat is like climbing a steep hill in San Fancisco… The Victorian architecture is wonderful and the neighborhood is green and rich with trees and vegetation. Decided to go for a place located closer to the hiking trails on Table Mountain. Guess I’ve become accustomed to being surrounded by hills and trees after living in Oregon for five years. Plan to stay in Tamboerskloof through October until I leave South Africa for New Zealand. The attached photos taken in and around the area give an idea of what it’s like. It’s quite beautiful. As with all things visual in and around the Cape Table Mountain reigns supreme!
